Bootstraps Board Member Job Description

​The mission of Bootstraps, in partnership with the community, is to support the continuing education of promising students in the mountain area, with an emphasis on financial need.
 

Board members perform a variety of tasks to further the mission of Bootstraps, though not all board members will perform all the described duties. Ideally, each board member uses their individual skill set to fulfill the needs of the organization.
 
Awards Committee
  • Become familiar with the requirements of the available scholarships and loans awarded each year.
  • Individually and as part of a team, review and evaluate scholarship and loan applications.
  • Assist in the matching of qualified students with scholarships and loans.
  • Interview applicants.
  • Meet with school personnel to discuss applicant qualifications.
 
Mentoring/Outreach
  • Speak with high school students about Bootstraps.
  • Mentor recipients regarding financial management as it relates to paying for college.
 
Fundraising
  • Volunteer to help at individual fundraising events which includes set-up, clean-up, check-in, and other tasks as needed.
  • Acknowledge and appreciate donors.
  • Collaborate with board members to develop and execute fundraising activities.
  • Promote fundraising events to friends and acquaintances.
  • Recruit volunteers to assist at Bootstraps events.
  • Volunteer at community events that will benefit Bootstraps.
  • Suggest potential donors for awards, general operating funds, and endowment contributions.
  • Continually increase success of fundraising efforts.
 
Publicity
  • Increase the branding or awareness of the organization through collective and personal activities.
  • Educate community members about our mission.
 
Governance
  • Attend monthly board meetings.
  • Actively seek new board members.
  • Oversee finances.
  • Work with executive director to fulfill our mission.
  • Contribute to setting and carrying out short and long-term goals.
  • Develop and execute the strategic plan.
