ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION OVERVIEW

You are eligible to apply for a Bootstraps scholarship and/or loan if you meet the following criteria:
  • You will be graduating from high school in the current school year; and
  • You are a legal resident of the State of Colorado; and
  • You reside within the boundaries of Clear Creek, Conifer, Evergreen, or Platte Canyon High Schools; and
  • You plan to pursue a postsecondary education full-time in the fall immediately following high school graduation. Postsecondary includes college, university, vocational and technical schools; and
  • You have financial need.

Postsecondary education is the education level that follows the successful completion of high school. It includes universities, colleges, trade, and vocational schools. Postsecondary education usually culminates with a diploma, certificate, or academic degree.

You MUST have financial need to receive a Bootstraps award. You have financial need if the cost of attendance for the school you plan to attend exceeds your expected family contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA.
The application for Bootstraps Scholarships and Loans consists of two rounds:
Round One is to establish financial qualification. Each year the average financial need changes with the pool of scholarship applicants. We serve those students who have financial need. Financial need is determined by subtracting your Estimate Family Contribution (as determined by completing the FAFSA form) from the total cost of attendance for the school you are interested in attending. If you qualify financially, you will be asked to move to Round Two. Round One requires the following information:
  • Student Aid Report from the FAFSA - please plan ahead and complete your FAFSA because it can take up to two weeks to receive your Student Aid Report
  • Your high school transcript
  • General information

Round Two - Traditional requires the following information:
  • Two teacher recommendations
  • Information about extra-curricular and voluntary activities
  • Information about work experience
  • Responses to essay questions.
    • What are your career goals?
    • Who are you?
    • What piece of writing has influenced your life and how?
    • Why do you deserve a Bootstraps scholarship or loan?
    • Optional question: What else do we need to know about you that could affect our decision?

Round Two - CTE requires the following information:
  • One teacher recommendation
  • Information about extra-curricular and voluntary activities
  • Information about work experience
  • Responses to questions.
    • What are your career goals?
    • Who are you?
    • Why do you deserve a Bootstraps scholarship or loan?
    • Optional question: What else do we need to know about you that could affect our decision?

The Bootstraps Awards Committee reviews all completed applications, and all Round Two applicants will be notified the second week of April. Those lucky enough to receive an award will attend an informal meeting in April, and a reception at Evergreen Lake House in May with the donors of the Bootstraps awards.
