Megan Womack - 2014
Officer Womack, aka Megan, graduated from Conifer High School in 2014. Our executive director, Colleen Skates, was fortunate to meet Megan when she was in high school and before she was selected to receive a four-year scholarship to attend the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Colleen and Megan have been corresponding via email since then. Here's what Megan said in one of the essays she wrote for her scholarship application:
"I intend on completing my course at Warren Tech for Criminal justice and then continuing on by attending the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where I will double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology in order to continue my journey in achieving the final goal of working for the F.B.I. After college I will train to become a police officer because the F.B.I. requires at least a year of professional work before being able to apply for a position there."
Megan recently wrote to Colleen to update her on the progress she has made toward her goal. Her own words say it best!
"I graduated as a [Colorado Springs Police Department] Officer January 23, 2020. I went through a grueling 16-week Police Training Officer (PTO) phase and graduated to being on my own. I chose to stay on the swing shift from 2 pm to 12 am and work Saturday through Tuesday.
I have made some amazing friendships with co-workers and have an awesome leadership team. I have received a commander's accommodation and have become very fortunate to still be where I am.

I have been exposed to a ton of situations and have gained an extreme amount of knowledge. I have fought people twice my size, deployed my OC (pepper spray), and used my taser on a non-compliant subject who was trying to eat, yes eat, his wife. I have taken 7-month-old babies out of abusive parents' arms and I have found multiple runaway teenagers. I have pulled people out of dangerous situations only to watch them walk back into the same place multiple times. I've seen death and drastic injuries I can't even begin to explain without getting nauseated. To say I am in my element would be an understatement.
I am loving my job and though it maybe hard now with everything going on in society and sleepless nights, I would not trade it for the world.
Please let the people who gave me the scholarship know how grateful I am and how they made it possible for me to be where I am today.
